Certified Staff Perfusionist

We are seeking a full-time Certified Staff Perfusionist to work at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda,MD. Perfusionist shall be responsible for any procedure that falls within the scope of perfusion and provide safe, effective, and appropriate cardiopulmonary bypass assistance in support of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Service. In addition, the following are tasks are required:

  • Cardiopulmonary Bypass For Adult, Pediatric, And Neonatal Patients;
  • Extracorporeal Circulatory Support For Renal, Neurological, Hepatic, And Vascular Surgery;
  • Extracorporeal Resuscitation;
  • Extracorporeal Circulation For Long-Term Support Of Failing Respiratory Or Cardiac Function;
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation;
  • Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal;
  • Myocardial Protection;
  • Perfusion-Assisted Direct Coronary Artery Bypass;
  • Hemofiltration And Hemodialysis;
  • Anticoagulation And Hemostasis Monitoring, Analysis, And Intervention;
  • Thermal Regulation;
  • Blood Gas And Blood Chemistry Monitoring, Analysis, And Intervention;
  • Physiological Monitoring, Analysis, And Intervention;
  • Administration Of Blood Components, Pharmaceuticals, And Anesthetic Agents And Pharmaceuticals;
  • Administration Of Anesthetic Agents Through A Heart Lung Machine
  • Ventricular Assist Device And Mechanical Circulatory Support Management;
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Counter-pulsation;
  • Temporary Pacemaker Management;
  • Periodic Flow Augmentation Therapy;
  • Auto-transfusion;
  • Platelet Gel Production, Autologous Hemocyte Tissue Matrix Production;
  • Non-differentiated Progenitor Cell Harvest Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate;
  • Acute Normovolemic Hemodilution;
  • Isolated Limb Or Organ Delivery Of Chemotherapeutics, Progenitor Cells, Gene Therapy Vectors and Other Items
  • Organ Procurement And Preservation;
  • Thermogenic Lavage;
  • Electrophysiological Analysis
  • Therapeutic Hyperthermia
  • Intravascular Membrane Oxygenation
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBLITIES TO PERFORM INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Ancillary responsibilities include: Point of care testing (ThromboElastaGraph [Haemonetics TEG], Blood Gas/Chemistry [Radiometer ABL90], Heparin Concentration/Activated Clotting Time [Medtronic HepCon], maintenance of stock, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Ventricular assist Device (VAD), Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC).
